Tailored academic support for every learning style
Special Education for Autistic Children in Lagos
Every child can learn — they just need the right teacher, the right approach, and the right environment. Our specialist educators bring individualised learning directly to your home.
Book a SessionMainstream classrooms are not designed for every learner — and for many autistic children in Lagos, school is a daily struggle that neither builds skills nor builds confidence. Purgo Care's special education service brings qualified, experienced special educators to your home, creating a learning environment that is genuinely designed around your child.
What Is Special Education?
Special education support provides highly individualised academic instruction for children who need an alternative approach to learning. Our educators assess your child's current academic level across literacy, numeracy, and cognitive skills, and design a personalised curriculum that meets them exactly where they are. Sessions are structured, calm, and adapted to your child's unique learning style — visual, hands-on, verbal, or a combination.

Benefits of Special Education
Individualised Curriculum
A learning plan built entirely around your child — their pace, their strengths, and their specific academic gaps.
Literacy & Numeracy
Targeted, structured teaching of reading, writing, and maths using approaches proven effective for autistic learners.
Reduced School Anxiety
Learning at home reduces the sensory and social demands of school, letting your child focus entirely on learning.
School Readiness
Builds the academic and behavioural foundations needed to eventually transition into or back into school settings.
Confidence & Motivation
When a child regularly experiences academic success at the right level, their confidence and love of learning grows.
Parent Involvement
Parents are kept informed of their child's progress and provided with tools to support learning throughout the week.
What to Expect
Your educator begins with a baseline assessment across literacy, numeracy, attention, and following instructions. From this, they create an individualised education plan (IEP) with clear short-term and long-term goals. Each session follows a structured routine your child comes to know and feel safe within, with activities adapted to their preferred learning modality. Progress is reviewed monthly and shared with parents. For children attending school, we coordinate with school staff where appropriate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Purgo Care replace school entirely — as a homeschool option?+
Yes. Many families in Lagos choose to homeschool their autistic child with Purgo Care as the primary education provider, particularly when school environments are not a good fit. We provide structured, daily academic instruction and ensure your child continues to progress academically regardless of their school situation.
Do you help with the transition back into mainstream school?+
Yes. For families whose goal is eventual mainstream school attendance, we build academic and behavioural readiness explicitly into the learning plan. We can also liaise with prospective schools and support the transition process with assessments, reports, and recommendations.
What curriculum do you follow?+
We adapt our teaching to be compatible with the Nigerian National Curriculum, while using approaches proven effective for autistic learners — including visual supports, structured literacy (phonics-based reading), concrete-to-abstract maths progressions, and positive behaviour systems. The pace and level are always calibrated to your child.
How do sessions stay focused when my child has a short attention span?+
Short attention spans are expected and planned for. Sessions are broken into short, well-defined activities with movement breaks and sensory regulation strategies built in. We use your child's interests wherever possible to increase engagement. Over time, attention span typically improves as your child gains confidence and the routine becomes familiar.
Can you work alongside other Purgo Care therapies?+
Absolutely — and it is often highly effective to do so. Many children receive ABA therapy, speech therapy, and special education support simultaneously, with our team coordinating goals across all three. The therapies complement each other and progress in one area often accelerates progress in others.
